Gran Prix Gloucester

Make sure you mark your calanders.....check out the site for info and details....www.gpgloucester.com
I will be racing both Sat & Sun at 1:00
2nd Baby!!! Had a kick ass race yesterday in Amesbury....I think I went from 15th position to 5th in the first corner....was kind of weird. The course was totally a mountain biker's course with tons of bumps and roots. The top 4 guys (and girl Lynne Bassette) were just battling and trading positions the whole race. In the end Talbott ended up in 1st...just couldn't catch him again...Fellow Salem Cycle rider Jesse ended up in 3rd place.
October is here and now I have to take a couple of weeks to focus on the shop in preperation of Halloween....but will keep training as much as possible for the US Gran Prix in Gloucester Oct. 13 and 14. That will be the true test...let's hope I ride well that weekend.

Cross season is upon us now.....had a great race this past weekend at Suckerbrook. Felt great and had a blast......ended up placing 12th out of 62....not bad for my first B men race.
Big race this Oct 13 & 14th.... the US Gran Prix in Gloucester....Training continues.

Sorry for the lack of posts the past couple weeks....been hangin up in Maine training with a good buddy of mine. Let's see...last race was the Pinnacle in Newport NH. This was the hardest race of the season by far...they got a bunch of rain the night before so the course was very muddy and slick...tons of climbing and some killer downhill sections.
I felt pretty strong climbing but I decided to take it easy on the downhill sections because my front just kept slipping out on me thru the corners. Had 4th position in the last lap and crashed with about a mile to go.... dropped me back into 5th to finish.
Cyclocross season starts this month with my first race on Sept 16th in Auburn NH...the Suckerbrook classic. I placed 1st last year so I'm really looking forward to going back this year. Time to break out the cross bike and get that thing rollin'...later.

Next Mtn Race is this weekend in Newport NH....The Pinnicle. Should be a pretty hardcore race with a lot of climbing.
The Mtn Bike season is coming to a close soon... currently in 4th place in my division....hopefully make it up into 3rd after this weeks race.

The Witches Cup was a Blast!!! Ended up in 19th place overall.... not bad for my first road race. Made a few mistakes and my plan didn't end working in the end and I was stuck in the lead with 3 laps to go....(not the place you want to be).... then on the last lap someone clipped my rear wheel in one of the corners. Thanks to everyone that came out.

Murphy's back in it...raced today in Exeter, NH. A very technical 18 mile course. I was just praying that I didn't fall today...I think if I went down on my leg I would have been done. I rode really well and finished in 4th place. Not bad for being off the bike for over a week. Next week is the Witches Cup here in Salem....road race....should be interesting.

Bad new with Fuel Racing.... I took a bad fall training last sunday my knee is pretty messed up. Doctor told me to stay off the bike for at least a week. So I had to miss this weeks race ....will try getting back training this Thursday and catch the next race in Exeter on Sunday. Will keep you all posted...

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Next Race this weekend.... The Bradbury Mtn. Enduro in Pownal, ME... a 30 mile point to point race.....should be a blast.

Official Results have been posted by EFTA for last race in Sunapee.... Actually Placed 3rd.

Sunday, July 8, 2007

Sunday in Sunapee, how nice. Todays race was the Harding Hill race.....20 mile course with a good mix of fast single track and fireroads....seemed like a lot of climbing as well. Felt pretty good from the start..... today was mass start so there was about 70 guys racing thru a field before you hit the trails....quite interesting.
I placed 4th today... kind of bummed because I took the 3rd position on the third lap... I thought I had lost the guy but he ended up passing me again on the fourth and final lap and I couldn't hang from there. Oh well...
I have the next week off..... Nice. Training hard...
Check out witchescup.com ...this will be my first road race. A Wed nite road crit around the Salem Commons Aug. 15th. Should be a good time.....

Raced out in Claremont NH this weekend..... All Out in Moody Park. This course is pretty cool...pretty fast with a big climb and a great downhill section. Reached 34mph on that bad boy....
I ended up in 5th place.... pretty good. I think I could have ridden a little better. I was messed up a bit after hitting a tree and then another bad spill. I was able to pass two guys in the last lap but just couldn't catch the guys in front..... Oh well.
Next week I'll be in Sunapee, NH for the Harding Hill race...

Hey All... Had a great race in Maine today. Felt really strong and fast...no tech problems. The course was four 4.5 mile loops of very technical terrain...a lot of people sidelined by this one. Thanks to all my friends and family that came out to support me today....Dad thanks sooo much for the bottles...you get the job buddy!!
Little bit of a problem in the end...the race officals put me down as not finishing the race. I guess the idiot offical at the finish didn't record my # correctly (5 is a tough one) so they recorded me as a DNF. But after some stupid discussion; they had a mystery person coming in at 1hr 54min.(2mins off from my computer)....so that placed me in about 8th place out of about 17 racers in my class. Not bad...but it was just frustrating to end the day this way.
We got some video from the race as well and I hope to have that up soon...

Friday, June 22, 2007

Next Race is this weekend....the Clifford Park Assault in Biddeford Maine. Should be a great race if I don't have any tech problems. Last year I placed 1st so I'm looking forward to doing well again this year. Keep you posted

Murphy wins the Thursday nite ECV Spank'om ride two weeks in a row.........I'm never letting go of the rooster trophy now!!

Sunday, June 10, 2007

Not a good day for Fuel Racing....3 miles into the race I blew my rear tire. Typically you can just throw in a tube and keep going...but for some reason we put rim strips in my rims when installing my tubeless system. (big mistake..??) So I was unable to get the valve out to throw in a tube.
I was having a great race otherwise... worked my way up to 3rd before the blow out...and I was feeling strong.
That's racing I guess.....will be in the shop this week making sure this problem doesn't happen again.

Thursday, June 7, 2007

Murphy brings home a win at the Thursday nite ECV Spank'om ride......The Salem Cycle crew was Rockin' it all night. I think there was a group of about 15 or 20 riders tonight. Good to get the Rooster trophy out of the hands of ECV for the week. We'll see if we can hold onto it next week. ???

2nd Race of the EFTA NECS Series this weekend in Sterling, Conn. ...feeling pretty strong right now ...let's hope I can carry it into the weekend. From what I hear the course is suppose to be pretty technical...I'm ready.

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Next Race is June 10th in Sterling, CT.

Still training hard......Tuesday nights at the Marblehead ride have been killer....Thursday nights with the ECV spank'om ride have been great too. Headed out to Lynn Woods for a couple hours this past weekend....haven't ridden there in a while....was a blast. These next couple of weeks I'll just try to get a in a few more training rides on the mountain bike and work on the technical riding....got rained out today....Oh well. Feeling great....will keep you posted on anything new.

First off....let me thank all the sponsors for their support. Stemtech Health....started taking them last week & feeling great. Thanks to Tom & all the guys at Michelin Footwear.....those tires Rock!! Can't wait for some driving shoes since I'll be doing a lot of driving this summer...about 4 hours today. Thanks to Dan & boys at Salem Cycle for getting my rear shock back from Fox on time for today's race....we were cutting it close....the bike ran great. Thanks to Shawn at McCarthy Restorations for all your support & help putting Fuel Racing together with me.
Today's race was Great!! I ended up with 4th Place.....missed the podium by about 30 seconds. Just couldn't seem to catch the guy in 3rd. Overall the course was pretty fast with a bunch of muddy sections & rock gardens....Not much climbing on this course. Had to do 4 five mile loops today....finished in 2 hours 13 minutes. Not bad for the first race of the season. No action photos this week as my photographers all decided to sleep in this week....Next time.
